Pittville Park Playground, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

Pittville Park Playground

Opened in 1825, Pittville Park is the largest ornamental park in Cheltenham and features the magnificent Pittville Pump Room and lakes. This park is given a grade 2 listing under the English Heritage register of historic parks and gardens, with the Pump Room as a grade 1 historic building.

Pittville Park is divided in two by Evesham Road and is popular for families and non-families alike. The eastern side is well-known, being overlooked by Pittville Pump Room and with a vast children’s play area, including sand and water play area plus several aviaries where you’ll find popular birds and bunnies. Definitely worth a visit for families!

The second section of the park is much larger, here you’ll find the larger ‘lower lake’ where you can fish during fishing season. This park also includes two smaller children’s play areas, tennis courts, a pitch and putt golf course, a skate park and a BMX park. You can even hire a boat for a relaxing trip on the lake.

The park is ideal for those wanting to keep active and includes Run England 321 markers for a 2km route and hosts a free Park Run every Saturday morning. There is also a permanent orienteering course in Pittville Park. Leaflets are available for this course from the Central Cross and Boathouse Cafes.

Toilets can be found in the eastern park between the lake and Evesham Road, and you can buy refreshments at Central Cross Cafe which is in the southern section alongside Central Cross Drive; the Boathouse Cafe which is located on the lower lake; plus a kiosk in the main playground.
